The HSI Instructor Development Course prepares participants to become authorized instructors for the HSI MEDIC First Aid training program. Participants will learn how to teach First Aid, CPR, automated external defibrillator (AED) use, and bloodborne pathogen prevention using HSI’s curriculum and instructional methods. Throughout the course, participants will practice lifesaving skills and procedures while developing the instructional skills needed to effectively teach others. Upon successful completion, participants will demonstrate competency in both the course content and the instructional skills required to teach HSI MEDIC First Aid, CPR, and AED courses.

Prerequisites
- Individuals at least 17 years old who hold current provider certification and/or demonstrated competency in layperson adult, child, and infant CPR, AED, and first aid.
- This is a blended course that requires an online portion prior to the face to face course. The online portion covers the essential cognitive content using text, still images, and interactive exercises. Students will be required to bring their certificate of completion of the online portion on the day of the in-person course.
Outcomes
Successful completion of the IDC by itself does not authorize an instructor candidate to conduct HSI training courses and issue certification cards. Candidates who have successfully completed the IDC must affiliate with an approved Training Center which will submit an application for instructor authorization. Instructor candidates can also establish their own Training Center.
